Global IT giant Google marked a significant milestone in its Asia-Pacific operations with the inauguration of its first Safety Engineering Centre in Hyderabad.
The Telangana Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, inaugurated the Google Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) India facility in Hyderabad, establishing the city as a crucial node in Google's global security network.
This facility is only the fourth of its kind worldwide and will serve as the nerve centre for implementing Google's Safety Charter across the Asia-Pacific region.
The centre will function as a comprehensive cybersecurity and artificial intelligence research hub, with particular emphasis on combating online fraud, protecting critical infrastructure, and advancing responsible AI development specifically tailored to India’s rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.

“Google has brought about major transformations in the world, and our lives have become completely digital with rapidly changing technologies. Today, the main concerns in the IT industry are privacy and security. As our economy, government, and daily lives advance with digital technology, we will grow further through digital security. I’m proud of Google for using this cyber security hub to develop advanced cyber and security solutions. The centre will also focus on skill development, in addition to creating employment and enhancing India's cybersecurity capacity,” Revanth Reddy said.
The Chief Minister stated that global companies were scouting for suitable investment locations, and Telangana has emerged as the best destination to invest and establish companies. “If we search online, Hyderabad appears first in the results,” he remarked.
He also sought Google's support in honing skills among the youth and providing them with employment opportunities. Google set up its first office in Hyderabad in 2007. Around 7,000 employees are currently working at the Hyderabad Google office.
State IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad was fast emerging as the tech capital of India, noting that seven of the world’s top ten tech giants have a presence in the city.
He added that in this era of AI, cybersecurity has become a paramount challenge. It is both timely and commendable that Google has chosen to set up Asia’s first GSEC in India — and specifically in Hyderabad. This move is not only welcome, but absolutely necessary in today’s digital climate, the IT Minister said.
