President Droupadi Murmu on Monday appointed new Governors for the states of Haryana and Goa, and a new Lieutenant Governor for the Union Territory of Ladakh.
According to an official statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu accepted the resignation of Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd.) from the post of Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. He has been replaced by Kavinder Gupta, a senior BJP leader from Jammu and Kashmir. The appointment comes against the backdrop of renewed agitation by the Ladakh Apex Body, which has intensified its demand for statehood and constitutional safeguards for the Union Territory.
Simultaneously, the President has appointed Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh as the Governor of Haryana, and Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju as the Governor of Goa. The appointments will take effect from the dates the individuals assume charge of their respective offices.
New Governor of Goa: Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju
A prominent figure in the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju is a member of the Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, royal Pusapati family. Raju is an experienced politician who has served in important roles in both the state and federal governments and has been elected as an MLA seven times. After winning a seat in the Lok Sabha from Vizianagaram in 2014, he served as the first Modi government's Union Civil Aviation Minister.

He started airport projects in Rajamahendravaram and Kadapa, implemented a no-fly list for unruly passengers, and played a key role in the launch of the UDAN regional connectivity scheme during his nearly four-year tenure. He resigned from the Union Cabinet over the demand for special status for Andhra Pradesh.
New Governor of Haryana: Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh
Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh, a seasoned academic and political leader, has been appointed the Governor of Haryana. Born in 1944 in Howrah, he pursued a degree in Political Science from Vidyasagar College, Kolkata, and later became a professor in the subject.

He entered politics in 1991 by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and rose through the ranks to serve as the party’s West Bengal state president from 1999 to 2002. He was instrumental in expanding the BJP's base at the grassroots level. Between 2003 and 2005, he also served as the party’s observer for Tripura, helping to grow its presence in the Northeastern region.
New Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh: Kavinder Gupta
Kavinder Gupta, a senior BJP leader from Jammu and Kashmir with longstanding ties to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.

He made history by being elected as Mayor of Jammu three consecutive times between 2005 and 2010. In 2018, Gupta briefly served as the Deputy Chief Minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government led by then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, though his tenure lasted just 51 days before the BJP pulled out of the alliance.
