Astronaut and Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla met with the Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh, on Thursday, in New Delhi, South Block. He discussed his space journey, the vital experiments he undertook in orbit, and Gaganyaan, India's pioneering human spaceflight programme, with the defence minister.
Shukla returned from a successful mission to the International Space Station (ISS) and, earlier this week, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He was the pilot of the Axiom-4 Space Mission to the ISS. He returned to Earth on July 15 after completing the NASA mission and landed in the national capital in the early hours of Sunday.
Informing about the meeting, Rajnath wrote in a post on X, "Delighted to meet Gp Capt Shubanshu Shukla, the first Indian Astronaut, on board the International Space Station. We discussed his inspiring space journey, the vital experiments he undertook in orbit, advances in science and technology, and the road ahead with India's pioneering #Gaganyaan mission. His journey will inspire the young minds of India. The nation is proud of its achievements".
Lok Sabha also welcomed the Indian Astronaut and Indian Air Force officer, while recognising his mission. Speaker Om Birla, on Monday, highlighted the importance of Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla's achievements in completing a mission aboard the ISS and the critical role of the space program for the 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047.
"On this occasion, the (lower) house welcomes Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla to India. His space mission and successful return are not merely about the success of the mission, but a matter of pride and inspiration for Indian citizens. Shukla's achievement is an inspiration for the youth," Birla said while addressing the Lok Sabha.
