Commuters wade their way amid heavy rain.

Parts of Delhi-NCR woke up to heavy rain on Monday morning, with an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Gurugram and Faridabad. Also, the weather panel showed that a yellow alert is active in other areas of the region.

Lower rain warnings have already been given for both Gurugram and Faridabad for Tuesday too. The newest rain warnings came one day after Ghaziabad was placed under a red alert for rain, and Noida was under an orange alert during the day on August 31.

Meanwhile, the water level in Yamuna stayed above the danger mark, and the river looked clearly swollen as seen in the morning visuals. A few days ago, the river went over the dangerous level of 205.33 metres, and it's expected to keep rising. We are noticing an increasing trend that is likely to continue past midnight.

An official from the flood control room said that announcements are being made using loudspeakers on foot and even by using boats. August was pretty cool in Delhi-NCR, with the area getting rain on and off throughout the month.

The monthly rainfall was 400.1mm, which is 72 pc more than the usual average of 233.1mm for that month. It was previously said that August might be the coolest month in the city in 13 years. The weather forecast says another rainy period is expected in September as well, according to the IMD.

In the past, September usually gets about 123.5mm of rain, but last year was different because it got 200mm, which is a lot more. This year's extra rain is expected to make Delhi's total annual rainfall go over 1,000mm.
