The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed that India is actively engaged with China to restart cross-border trade through three key mountain passes: Lipulekh, Shipki La, and Nathu La.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated during a media briefing, "We have remained engaged with the Chinese side to facilitate the resumption of border trade through all the designated trade points—namely Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand, Shipki La Pass in Himachal Pradesh, and Nathu La Pass in Sikkim. If there are any updates, we will keep you informed."
This diplomatic effort is taking place as both nations prepare for a crucial meeting next week to address their border disputes. The Special Representative Level talks are scheduled to be held, marking a significant step in the ongoing dialogue between the two countries.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to visit India on August 18 for these talks. During his visit, he will meet with India's National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval. It is anticipated that the two leaders will concentrate on settling the long-standing boundary disputes.
This meeting is especially significant because it will mark the first time a Chinese foreign minister has visited India since the clashes in the Galwan Valley in June 2020, which caused tensions along the border to significantly escalate.
