India and Indonesia on Sunday reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across defence, security, trade, maritime affairs and critical minerals as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar co-chaired the 8th India-Indonesia Joint Commission Meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono in New Delhi.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, which has gained momentum in recent years amid growing convergence on regional and global issues.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the discussions covered a wide range of sectors, including political relations, defence and security cooperation, maritime and shipping ties, trade, fintech, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, fertilisers, tourism, education and cultural exchanges.
Particular emphasis was placed on cooperation in critical minerals, an area that has assumed strategic importance as countries seek to secure supply chains for clean energy technologies, electronics and advanced manufacturing.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional developments and explored ways to strengthen multilateral coordination, including through deeper engagement between India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

In a post on X, Jaishankar said the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership had witnessed strong growth in recent years and described the discussions as substantive across a broad range of sectors.
Indonesia remains a key partner in India's Act East policy and plays an important role in New Delhi's engagement with ASEAN and the wider Indo-Pacific region. Both countries have increasingly focused on maritime security, connectivity and economic cooperation amid evolving geopolitical dynamics in the region.
Sugiono said the meeting addressed key priorities ranging from trade and maritime security to digital connectivity, infrastructure, healthcare and people-to-people ties. He also expressed optimism about further strengthening bilateral cooperation through high-level engagements.
The Indonesian minister said he was looking forward to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Jakarta, describing it as an opportunity to deepen cooperation and deliver tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
The meeting comes more than a year after Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited India as the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations in 2025, a visit that both sides say injected fresh momentum into bilateral ties.
India and Indonesia are also working closely under the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework for 2026-2030, reflecting their shared interest in promoting a stable, prosperous and rules-based Indo-Pacific region.
