India and Pakistan are continuously engaging in a heated verbal feud after halt on the recent escalations following the Pahalgam terror attack.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, while addressing security forces in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, said, Pakistan is an 'irresponsible rogue nation’. This was after he saw the shells bombed by the Pakistani side on the Line of Control and Srinagar.

“I believe that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons should be taken under the supervision of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency),” Singh said.

Meanwhile, his comments have drawn strong criticism from Pakistan, which, in a statement, said Singh’s comments reflect “his frustration and insecurity regarding the recent tit-for-tat actions of both countries.”

While Singh was quoted as saying that “Pakistan’s nuclear weapons must be put under the observation of the IAEA.” The Pakistani side replied that Singh’s words reflect “sheer ignorance” and that he should refrain from such comments.

Meanwhile, the UN nuclear watchdog monitors countries that have nuclear weapons to ensure that they are safe and maintain peace. Under a 2008 agreement, the IAEA monitors several Indian civilian nuclear facilities.

Both countries conducted tit-for-tat nuclear tests in 1998, India and Pakistan became nuclear powers, since the region has become one of the world’s dangerous nuclear flashpoints.

Earlier last week, when both nations were locked in deadly confrontations and cross-border shelling, 70 people lost their lives and leaving hundreds more injured.

The fighting ensued after the April 22 terror attack on Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, which Investigation agencies had a hallmark and digital footprints that it was orchestrated by Islamabad, a claim that Pakistan denied.

After four days of intense clashes at the LoC and the International border, United States President Donald Trump announced a surprise ceasefire agreement as world powers urged the two nuclear powers to avoid escalating tensions.

While the ceasefire is currently holding, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that India would strike at militant hideouts across the border again if there were new attacks on India and would not be deterred by what he referred to as Islamabad’s “nuclear blackmail.”

Shortly after PM Modi finished his speech, Pakistan said the words were “provocative and inflammatory assertions,” saying they represent a dangerous escalation.

This particularly means that India and Pakistan forces will be staring at each other, constantly fearing that one terror attack in India could trigger a broader conflict.

The experts have said that the remarks from both countries are alarmingly provocative, and any future incident resembling that of Pahalgam may have catastrophic consequences for the region.
