India's exports are poised for growth despite the challenges posed by global trade uncertainties, according to Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) Santosh Kumar Sarangi.

Speaking at the Sourcex India 2025 event organised by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), Sarangi expressed confidence in the nation's export potential and highlighted the resilience of India's exporting community.

Sarangi noted that the current global trade environment presents both challenges and opportunities.

He encouraged exporters to navigate these complexities wisely, suggesting that the present scenario could serve as a "golden opportunity" for India to expand its manufacturing competitiveness and strengthen its position in international markets.

Despite concerns about fluctuating tariffs and trade restrictions, he emphasised that India's exports are likely to see consistent growth in the coming years.

In the context of recent trade tensions, Sarangi acknowledged the impact of policies such as the reciprocal tariffs imposed by the United States.

Although some exporters expressed concerns about potential duties on engineering and pharmaceutical goods, he maintained that India's exporting community has shown remarkable adaptability.

Sarangi shared that India's exports in goods and services are expected to surpass USD 800 billion in the current year, an increase from the USD 778 billion recorded last year.

While there has been a temporary decline in exports over recent months, he noted that the volume of order enquiries remains positive, reflecting strong demand for Indian products globally.

To support exporters and boost domestic manufacturing, the government has implemented several measures, including production-linked incentive schemes.

These initiatives aim to improve the ease of doing business, attract investments, and strengthen the manufacturing sector, which could further boost India's export performance.

Ajay Sahai, Director General of FIEO, echoed Sarangi's optimism, stating that India's exports are likely to achieve healthy growth rates. He acknowledged the tariff-related challenges but noted that the removal of such uncertainties could provide a further push to export shipments.

India's goods exports experienced a decline of 10.85 pc in February, marking the fourth consecutive month of reduced figures, with the total goods exports standing at USD 395.63 billion during the April-February period of this fiscal year.

Service exports during the same period were estimated at USD 354.90 billion. However, both Sarangi and Sahai maintained a positive outlook, emphasising the resilience of India's export sector amid challenging global conditions.
