In a formal statement, India expressed its willingness to support peace efforts and reaffirmed its consistent position that dialogue and diplomacy are the only long-term ways to alleviate tensions in the region, just hours after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement on Tuesday that while New Delhi is still extremely concerned about the Middle East situation, it has welcomed early reports of an Iranian-Israeli ceasefire after a period of severe escalation. “We have been closely following overnight developments in the conflict between Iran and Israel, including the US military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and Iran’s retaliatory attacks on US military bases in Qatar,” the MEA stated.
The statement further read, “While we remain deeply concerned about the prospects for sustained regional peace and security, we welcome the reported ceasefire and commend the efforts by the United States and Qatar in facilitating the truce.” India once again stressed its longstanding position that peaceful resolution of conflicts in the West Asia region must come through diplomatic channels. “We wish to reiterate that there is no alternative to dialogue and diplomacy in order to address and resolve the multiple conflicts in the region,” the MEA said.

“India stands ready to play its part in promoting peace and hopes all parties involved will work towards a long-term solution that ensures regional stability,” the ministry added. Shortly after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing India's profound concern over the worsening Iran-Israel conflict, New Delhi released its most recent statement. President Pezeshkian started the discussion on Sunday after US airstrikes on Iran's three main nuclear installations, Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, greatly increased the likelihood of a wider conflict.
"We discussed in detail the current situation and expressed deep concern at the recent escalations," Prime Minister Modi wrote on social media after the call. reiterated our demand that regional peace, security, and stability be restored as soon as possible and that de-escalation be achieved through dialogue and diplomacy.
Following his initial announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, President Trump later charged that both countries were breaking the terms of the agreement. International anxiety has increased due to the truce's ambiguity, especially in light of Iran's counterattacks and the involvement of the US military. Reiterating its diplomatic stance, India emphasises peaceful engagement over armed conflict, demonstrating its balanced approach to West Asian geopolitics. New Delhi's willingness to mediate reflects its expanding strategic role on the international scene as stakes rise in a region vital to the world's energy supply and international security.
