India will be happy to host next AI Action Summit: Modi

France is hosting the first global AI Action Summit. The Prime Minister also welcomed the decision to set up the 'AI Foundation' and the 'Council for Sustainable AI' at the summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday offered to host the next AI Action summit in India.

 

In his concluding remarks at the summit which he co-chaired with French President Emmanuel Macron, Modi said that the discussions have clearly brought out that there is “unity in vision and unity in purpose across stakeholders.”

 

Observing that the partnership for AI is truly global in nature, Modi said, "To build on the momentum of this Action Summit, India would be happy to host the next Summit." 

 

France is hosting the first global AI Action Summit.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the decision to set up the 'AI Foundation' and the 'Council for Sustainable AI' at the summit.

 

Modi congratulated France and President Macron for these initiatives and assured him of full support.

 

“We must also make the "Global Partnership for AI” truly global in nature. It should be more inclusive of the Global South and its priorities, concerns and needs,” Modi said

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday made a strong case for collective global efforts to establish governance and standards for artificial intelligence (AI) to uphold shared values and address risks.

 

Co-Chairing the AI Action Summit along with French President Emmanuel Macron, Modi said that AI is changing the polity, economy, security and society.

"There is a need for collective global efforts to establish governance and standards that uphold our shared values, address risks and build trust," Modi said.

The prime minister further said that AI is writing the code for humanity in this century.

 

Referring to apprehensions about job losses on account of AI, Modi said that history has shown that work does not disappear due to technology but its nature changes and new types of jobs are created.

 

"We need to invest in skilling and re-skilling our people for an AI driven future," Modi said.

Macron’s warm welcome

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed with a hug by French President Emmanuel Macron at a welcome dinner at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

“Delighted to meet my friend, President Macron in Paris,” Modi posted on X on Monday.

 

At the dinner, the prime minister Modi also met US Vice President JD Vance, who is also in France to attend the AI Summit.

 

The meeting marked Modi’s first interaction with the top leadership of the Trump administration ahead of his upcoming visit to the US.

During their conversation, Modi congratulated Vance on his electoral victory.

 

"Congratulations. Great, great victory,” he said while shaking hands with the US Vice President.

 

"PM @narendramodi interacts with President @EmmanuelMacron and USA @VP @JDVance in Paris," the Prime Minister's Office said in a post on X.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi arrived in Paris for the first leg of his two-nation tour that will later take him to the US.
