The Indian Army foiled an ambush by Pakistani infiltrators along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir on the night of February 4-5.
In the operation, the Army gunned down seven infiltrators, including two to three Pakistan Army personnel. The attackers were part of Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT), a special unit for cross-border operations.
The incident occurred as Pakistan observed 'Kashmir Solidarity Day', an annual event aimed at promoting its anti-India agenda. The ambush was aimed at a forward post, but the Indian Army intercepted the infiltrators and launched a counterattack. The operation was swift and effective, resulting in the death of seven individuals, including suspected militants from the Al-Badr group. These terrorists had likely crossed the LoC to carry out their mission.
The attack by Pakistan’s BAT was an attempt to escalate tensions along the border, but the Indian Army responded with strong defensive measures. The ambush unfolded amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. Earlier this week, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had called for dialogue with India to resolve all issues, including Kashmir. However, his statement was seen as hypocritical, given the conference held by terrorist leaders like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, is an integral part of its territory. The Indian government has also made it clear that meaningful relations with Pakistan can only be established if terrorism is stopped. The diplomatic relationship between the two countries has deteriorated significantly since India revoked Article 370 in 2019, which had granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
In the last few months, terror attacks have intensified in various districts of Jammu, leading to the deaths of 44 people, including 18 security personnel. These attacks are believed to be supported by groups operating from Pakistan, which has further strained relations between the two nations.
