Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, met Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar, on Thursday to discuss critical defence and developmental priorities in the state. The discussions focused on land acquisition for defence purposes, enhancement of ex-servicemen support, and youth engagement in the Armed Forces.

General Dwivedi emphasised the need to expedite land acquisition to ensure essential defence infrastructure projects proceed without delay. He also highlighted the importance of establishing Zilla Sainik Boards in the state, which would serve as vital support systems for ex-servicemen and their families.

The COAS expressed concern over the limited participation of Arunachal Pradesh’s youth in Armed Forces recruitment. He called for increased efforts to encourage local youth to apply, while also discussing frontier highway development and ongoing security and developmental initiatives in the state.

Governor Parnaik highlighted the significance of a collaborative, people-centric approach to implementing the Vibrant Village Programme, stating its success depends on joint efforts by the government, local communities, and security forces. He lauded the Army’s role in supporting administration-led initiatives, noting the potential to transform remote border villages into hubs of growth, opportunity, and national pride.

The governor also commended the Army’s contribution to pre-recruitment training for local youth, facilitation of admissions to Sainik Schools, and execution of Sadbhavana projects, which enhance civil-military relations across the region.

On September 17, General Dwivedi visited Likabali Military Station to review the combat readiness of the formation. He was briefed on operational matters, internal security, technology integration, coordination with other security agencies, and nation-building initiatives.

The Indian Army’s elite Spear Corps is concluding a high-altitude mountaineering expedition to Mount Gorichen, the highest peak in Arunachal Pradesh. Flagged off on August 20, 2025, the expedition aims to promote adventure, resilience, and team spirit, while strengthening civil-military relations and highlighting adventure tourism.

The final summit push is expected shortly, following rigorous acclimatisation and technical climbs designed to test endurance, coordination, and mental fortitude.
