Military Heritage Festival to highlight India’s defense history.

The second edition of the Indian Military Heritage Festival (IMHF) will begin on November 8, 2024, in New Delhi. This two-day event aims to bring together a wide range of participants, including global and Indian think tanks, corporations, government agencies, non-profit organisations, academics, and researchers, all focusing on crucial topics such as India’s national security, foreign policy, military history, and military heritage.

The festival will be inaugurated by Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, alongside the three Service Chiefs of India. A key feature of this year’s festival is the launch of Project Shaurya Gatha, an initiative led by the Department of Military Affairs in collaboration with the United Service Institution (USI) of India. This project is dedicated to conserving and promoting India’s military heritage through educational and tourism efforts.

This year’s festival will also highlight several notable book releases on military topics. Among these are Because of This: A History of the Indo-Pak Air War December 1971 by Air Marshal Vikram Singh (Retd), Valour and Honour, a joint publication by the Indian Army and the USI of India, and Silent Weapons, Deadly Secrets: Unveiling the Bioweapons Arms Race by Dr. Mrinmayee Bhushan, edited by Lt Gen Vinod Khandare (Retd), Principal Advisor to the Ministry of Defence.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will also contribute to the festival with a photo exhibition showcasing its achievements and innovations in defence research, emphasising its role in strengthening India’s self-reliance through the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative.

One of the festival’s significant attractions will be the participation of National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets and students from various schools and colleges in the Delhi NCR region.

Their involvement aims to inspire the younger generation to consider careers in the armed forces. Additionally, informative stalls will be set up by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, providing details about the different opportunities available to aspiring youth interested in joining the military.

The event is supported by a range of government agencies, including the Ministry of Defence, Department of Military Affairs, and the Indian Armed Forces, along with other key organisations such as DRDO, the Department of Tourism Ladakh, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, the Ministry of Culture, and the British High Commission.

The first edition of the IMHF, held on October 21-22, 2023, at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, was a successful showcase of India’s military culture. The event featured performances by military bands from the three Services and various exhibits that highlighted the diverse aspects of the Indian armed forces.
