Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on Monday, August 25 to dedicate railway projects worth over Rs 1,400 crore to the nation, a release from the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated on Friday.
The initiatives are aimed at transforming connectivity in North Gujarat, benefiting districts such as Mahesana, Patan, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. Officials said the projects will promote industrial growth, improve logistics, and generate employment opportunities.
Among the major projects are the doubling of the 65 km Mahesana-Palanpur Rail Line at a cost of Rs 537 crore, the gauge conversion of the 37 km Kalol-Kadi-Katosan Road Rail Line at Rs 347 crore, and the 40 km Bechraji-Ranuj Rail Line conversion at Rs 520 crore.
“With the addition of broad-gauge capacity, these projects will ensure smoother, safer and more seamless connectivity, especially for Mahesana, Banaskantha and Patan districts,” the release said. Officials added that this will ease travel for commuters, tourists and businesses alike while fostering regional economic integration.

The track doubling on the Ahmedabad-Delhi corridor is expected to enhance line capacity, allowing the operation of higher-speed trains, more passenger services, and efficient freight movement. This, in turn, is projected to boost economic activity across the state.
The Bechraji-Ranuj gauge conversion aligns with the National Logistics Policy and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan for Multimodal Connectivity. Its objective is to reduce logistics costs and strengthen Gujarat’s ranking in the national Logistics Performance Index, accelerating socio-economic development in North Gujarat.
The launch of passenger trains between Katosan Road and Sabarmati from Kadi will improve access to religious destinations, facilitate daily commuting, and stimulate economic activity at the grassroots level. Meanwhile, the car-loaded freight train service from Bechraji will enhance industrial connectivity, strengthen the logistics network, and create employment opportunities.
Officials described these services as sustainable, environmentally friendly, and high-speed transport options, designed to reduce travel time, attract investment, and drive regional industrial growth. “All these Railway projects will pave the way for a Viksit Bharat through Viksit Gujarat,” the release stated.
