An Air India flight bound for Indore was forced to return to Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday shortly after its takeoff. The pilot of flight AI2913 received a 'fire indication' for the right engine, prompting the decision to turn back, the airline confirmed.

The Tata Group-owned airline stated that the cockpit crew followed standard operating procedures by shutting down the affected engine. The aircraft, which had departed from Delhi on August 31, landed safely back at the Delhi airport without further incident.

Following the event, Air India announced that it has grounded the aircraft for a thorough inspection and detailed scrutiny. Passengers of the affected flight were transferred to an alternative aircraft to continue their journey to Indore.

The airline has informed the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) about the incident. No further details regarding the nature of the "fire indication" or the specifics of the engine issue were immediately provided by the airline.
