Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir conducted a joint operation on Saturday to locate potential cross-border tunnels along the International Border (IB) in Samba district, amid heightened security measures ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit next week.
The Border Security Force (BSF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police collaborated in the two-hour search operation in the Ramgarh sector, following the discovery of around a dozen such tunnels used for smuggling activities in recent years.
The authorities recently announced a reward for information leading to the detection of these "anti-national elements."
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Jammu on February 20th for the inauguration and foundation laying of various projects. He will also address a public gathering.
In light of these developments, BSF troops and police personnel guarding the IB and border posts have been placed on high alert, particularly after a recent ceasefire violation by Pakistan Rangers.
Increased vigilance is being maintained to monitor any suspicious activity across the border.
Security arrangements have also been bolstered along the Line of Control (LoC) and within the hinterland to deter any potential terrorist attacks. This includes intensified patrolling, area domination, and stricter checks in sensitive zones.
While the search operation in Samba yielded no immediate findings, it underscores the ongoing efforts to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the Prime Minister's visit.
Recent incidents like the ceasefire violation and drone sightings near the LoC highlight the continued tensions in the region, necessitating constant vigilance by security forces.
