A nine-year-old Class 4 student, Amaira Kumar Meena, who tragically died by suicide at a prominent school in Jaipur, had repeatedly sought help from her class teacher, approaching her five separate times and pleading for support for a full 45 minutes over persistent bullying, yet received no assistance.
Rather than providing help or comfort to the distressed child, the teacher shouted at her on multiple occasions and made remarks that “shocked the entire class.” The young girl, who had endured harassment for the past 18 months, felt utterly cornered and helpless. She eventually left her ground-floor classroom and climbed to the fourth floor of the school building, from where she jumped, dying instantly on impact.
These disturbing findings are part of the conclusions reached by a two-member inspection team constituted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Amaira Kumar Meena’s suicide on November 1. The girl’s grieving parents have alleged that their daughter was subjected to prolonged bullying, relentless teasing, and verbal abuse that included “sexual connotations,” and that their repeated complaints to the school authorities went completely unaddressed.

What happened on day of suicide?
According to the CBSE report, Amaira had been bullied for the past 18 months and was repeatedly subjected to “bad words,” yet her class teacher, Puneeta Sharma, consistently dismissed both the child’s and her parents’ complaints on the issue.
Detailing the events immediately preceding the tragedy, the report noted that before 11 a.m. on the day of the incident, Amaira was observed engaging in positive conversations, dancing, eating chocolate and golgappa, and appearing happy and laughing.
The situation deteriorated sharply after 11 a.m. CCTV footage revealed that Amaira appeared visibly disturbed while looking at the contents displayed on a digital slate. A group of boys had “written/made something” on it. Amaira’s reaction indicated she was puzzled, surprised, and embarrassed. She was seen asking her classmates to stop or erase whatever had been written.
Amaira herself wrote something on the slate before urgently requesting that the content be removed. The CBSE report emphasised that “the teacher’s intervention was very much needed” at this critical juncture.
The class teacher’s failure to provide support became starkly evident when Amaira approached her five times, pleading for help over a span of 45 minutes, but received no assistance whatsoever.
“Instead of supporting her, Puneeta ma’am dismissed the problem. She was seen shouting multiple times and said things that ‘shocked the entire class’. Amaira felt concerned and harassed by few classmates and no support or intervention by teachers,” the report stated. It further noted that Amaira skipped her lunch that day.
The committee concluded, “It seems something unusual happened in class, and she is looking extremely disturbed. A few hot discussions among students are also observed, and it may be related to use of bad words and some derogatory comments, as per parents’ observations and video footage.”
