Jantar Mantar has been removed from the list of designated venues for protests and demonstrations, according to a Delhi Police circular issued on Monday. The order also identifies three alternative locations for such activities.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had formed a committee to assess suitable venues that could uphold citizens’ right to organise protests and demonstrations while replacing the existing designated site.
Acting on the committee’s recommendations, the circular said Jantar Mantar had been de-notified as a protest venue.
Three new protest venues
- Ramlila Ground
- Burari Ground
- CBD Ground
These three locations have now been designated for organising protests and demonstrations.
A detailed, revised standard operating procedure for conducting protests and demonstrations at the newly designated venues will be issued separately, the circular said.
