Two Maoists were killed and a cache of arms and ammunition recovered in an encounter with security forces in Jharkhand on Wednesday. Two security personnel were also injured in the encounter.
The encounter took place in Uparghat of Bermo subdivision in Bokaro district on Wednesday morning when the state police and CRPF were conducting a joint operation in the hilly area of the district.
Sources said that a woman Maoist, who is said to be the wife of hardcore Maoist Ranvijay Mahato, was also killed in the encounter. Ranvijay, who was carrying a reward of Rs 15 lakh, was caught from Chandrapura on Tuesday.
After the arrest of Ranvijay Mahato, a tip off was received about the presence of an armed squad of six Maoists in the forests of Jarwa and Banshi of Uparghat area. Based on the information, Bokaro SP along with teams of State police and CRPF cordoned off the area and conducted a search operation.
During the search operation, Maoists saw the security forces and started indiscriminate firing. Security forces returned fire after being attacked and in the encounter, two Maoists including a woman were killed and two policemen were reported to be injured.
Forces surrounded the Maoists from all sides in the forest and search operation continued at the time of filing of this report.
