Security forces successfully recovered and neutralised a cache of powerful explosives in the dense forests near Chitpil village, under Toklo police station limits in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on Wednesday.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint operation was launched involving personnel from Jharkhand Police and the CRPF’s 60th Battalion. The operation focused on forested and hilly areas near the Chaibasa–Seraikela border, a region known for frequent Maoist activity.
During the search, the team discovered 14 powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted with the intent to ambush patrolling units. These IEDs were safely defused by the bomb disposal squad.
Additionally, an underground Maoist explosive storage site was found, containing 52 polybags filled with nearly 52 kilogrammes of a white powder suspected to be ammonium nitrate — commonly used in bomb-making.
To prevent any potential misuse, the explosives were destroyed on-site, and the storage facility was dismantled. A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Explosive Substances Act, and the CLA Act.
Authorities believe top CPI (Maoist) commanders — including Misir Besra, Anmol, and others — remain active in the Saranda and Kolhan forests. In response, security has been tightened, with joint forces such as the Jharkhand Jaguar, CRPF, and CoBRA units deployed across vulnerable areas.
Patrolling has been intensified, and further operations are anticipated soon to dismantle Maoist networks.
