Security forces recovered a large cache of explosives, including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), detonators, urea, gunpowder, and other items, during a search operation in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district on Friday.

 

The recovered items include 28 ready-to-use IEDs, 23 detonators, 25 kg of urea, 1 kg of gunpowder, 50 switches, 250 metres of Cordex wire, 150 metres of safety fuse, one Syntex container, and other daily-use items.

 

The search operation was conducted jointly by the CRPF, Jharkhand Police Special Forces, and West Singhbhum District Police against top leaders of the banned CPI (Maoist) organisation, including Misir Besra, Anmol, Mochu, Anal, Asim Mandal, Ajay Mahato, and Sagen Angaria, along with their squad members.

 

The Maoists are currently in the Saranda jungles of the district for subversive activities. A joint operation team comprising Chaibasa Police, CoBRA 203 BN, 209 BN, Jharkhand Jaguar, and CRPF battalions 26 BN, 60 BN, 134 BN, 174 BN, 193 BN, and 197 BN has been formed, and continuous operations are being conducted.

 

Since 2022, joint operations have been carried out consistently in the border areas of villages including Kuida, Chhota Kuida, Maradiri, Meralgada, Hathiburu, Tilaybeda Boypaisang, Katamba, Bayahatu, Boroy, and Lemsadih under Goilkera Police Station.

 

Operations have also been conducted in the border areas of Husipi, Rajabasa, Tumbahaka, Regada, Patatorb, Goburu, and Luiya under Tonto Police Station.

 

Jharkhand Police stated that intelligence was received regarding extremists hiding weapons and ammunition in forested and hilly areas under Tonto Police Station’s jurisdiction.

 

In response, a search operation was launched in the forested area around the villages of Sarjamburu and Jimkiikir under Tonto Police Station on Friday.

 

During the search, explosives and other materials previously planted by Maoists to target security forces were recovered from an old Naxalite dump near the forested village of Jimkiikir.

 

The recovered explosives were destroyed on-site by a bomb disposal squad for security reasons.
