Jharkhand on alert as heavy rains trigger flood fears

Taking seriously the continuous torrential rains, waterlogging, and flood-like situations in Jharkhand, the Disaster Management Department has been instructed to remain on high alert.

Early monsoon lashes Jharkhand with heavy rainfall.

Taking seriously the continuous torrential rains, waterlogging, and flood-like situations in Jharkhand, the Disaster Management Department has been instructed to remain on high alert.

Disaster Management Minister Dr Irfan Ansari stated that he is constantly monitoring the entire situation. He has directed all Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, and concerned officials to stay on 24-hour alert.

The government aims to take all necessary measures to tackle the flood and waterlogging situation and ensure the public’s safety.

Citizens have been urged to stay alert and follow the instructions issued by the Disaster Management Department. The government is making every possible effort to manage the current situation so that the public does not face difficulties.

As of June 29, the southwest monsoon has officially covered the entire country, nine days ahead of its typical arrival date of July 8.

This early onset has been attributed to persistent and active weather disturbances over the Bay of Bengal, which have significantly influenced rainfall patterns across eastern and central India.

The Meteorological Centre in Ranchi has reported that a well-defined low-pressure system remains over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh.

This system, associated with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 kilometres above sea level, is expected to gradually move in a west-northwest direction towards North Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand over the next two days.

With the monsoon advancing, Jharkhand is preparing for widespread and intense rainfall. Forecasts from the weather department indicate that very heavy rain is likely to persist across the north-western and north-central districts on July 1.

Many areas could experience continuous showers, increasing the risk of waterlogging in low-lying regions. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in the northwestern and northeastern parts of the state.

On July 2, heavy rain is also forecast to continue in the northwestern, northcentral, and surrounding regions, along with isolated incidents of thunderstorms and lightning.
