Latehar district police in Jharkhand achieved a major breakthrough when nine members of the banned extremist outfit Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) laid down arms before security forces.
During the surrender, security forces recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition, including one AK-56 rifle, four AK-47 rifles, three SLRs, two .303 rifles, and one 30.06 MI rifle. In addition, 1,782 rounds of ammunition and 26 magazines were seized.
Those who surrendered include zonal commander Ravindra Yadav, sub-zonal commander Akhilesh Yadav, Baldev Ganjhu alias Amresh Ganjhu alias Chashmali, Mukesh Ram alias Kallu alias Ravi alias Azad, Pawan alias Ram Prasad, area commander Dhuru Ji alias Raju Ram alias Guardian, Vijay Yadav, Shravan Singh alias Paras Singh, and Mukesh Ganjhu.

Altogether, they carried a reward of Rs 23 lakh announced by the Jharkhand government. The surrender is being hailed as one of the biggest successes in the state’s ongoing anti-insurgency campaign.
Officials said the militants were influenced by the state’s surrender and rehabilitation policy Nayi Disha and opted to join the mainstream. This is the first instance of such a large group from JJMP surrendering at once, marking a significant milestone for the police and security forces in Jharkhand.
The militants surrendered in the presence of CRPF 11 Battalion Inspector General Saket Kumar Singh, IG (Operations) Ranchi Michael Raj Ash, Palamu IG Sunil Bhaskar, DIG Naushad Alam, Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav, and Deputy Development Commissioner Md. Syed Riyaz Ahmed.
