Joshi assumes charge of Education ministry, reviews initiatives

Pralhad Joshi  was given the charge yesterday following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. Joshi also continues to hold the portfolios of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy.The review meeting held today focused on the implementation of various flagship schemes and other initiatives being undertaken by the Ministry.

Union minister Pralhad Joshi officially assumed charge of Education ministry on Sunday as he chaired a review meeting of the Department


Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Sunday officially assumed charge of the Ministry of Education at Kartavya Bhavan and held a review meeting with senior officials to assess the implementation of key government schemes and ongoing initiatives in the education sector.

 

Joshi, who also oversees the Ministries of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy, chaired the meeting shortly after taking charge of the ministry.The review meeting focused on the implementation of various flagship schemes and other initiatives being undertaken by the Ministry.

 

Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary also attended the meeting.Senior officials present included Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Dr. Vineet Joshi, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, T. K. Anil Kumar, along with other senior officers of the ministry.

 

 Pralhad Joshi  was given the charge yesterday following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. Joshi also continues to hold the portfolios of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy. On Saturday he said he would discharge his responsibilities with "complete humility" and a deep sense of duty. Thanking Prime Minister Modi for entrusting him with what he described as a "significant responsibility", he said he would work with "full dedication, humility and honesty" to meet the expectations placed upon him.

 

Pradhan resigned from his post on Saturday following the Cockroach Janta Party-led student protests across the country, demanding his ouster over the NEET paper leak controversy.In his resignation letter, Pradhan said it was not a matter of “individual prestige” for him, and that he was disturbed to see the series of events that unfolded over the last 10 days.

 

Later, speaking to the media, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for entrusting him with this responsibility. Joshi said he is currently holding review meetings to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Ministry’s functioning, policies and ongoing initiatives. He added that it is a large and important department, and his immediate priority is to understand Education Ministry’s operations thoroughly before taking forward its programmes and implementing new initiatives.
