Actor and MNM leader Kamal Haasan formally entered the gates of power on Friday as he was sworn in as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. The veteran thespian, much acclaimed for his contribution to the world of Tamil cinema, chose to take his oath in Tamil, underlining his commitment to linguistic identity and regional representation. Haasan's taking of oath is a significant milestone for MNM, the political outfit which he formed in 2018.
Apart from actor-turned-politician Haasan, three other newly elected Rajya Sabha MPs from Tamil Nadu took oath on Friday. They were Rajathi, SR Sivalingam and P Wilson.
Haasan belongs to the MNM party, while the other three are from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

All the other three also took oath in Tamil as six members from Tamil Nadu had retired after completing their terms on Thursday.
Earlier during the day, Haasan arrived at Parliament complex with anticipation and media flurry. His entry was observed by legislative colleagues and media members alike, marking the new synthesis of movie background and ascendant political reputation.
Haasan's arrival in Parliament promises to introduce a cultural and reformist voice in the Upper House. Although his policy priorities are unrevealed, MNM sources point towards governance, transparency, and inclusive development.
With this trend, the politician-turned-star becomes part of an elite list of artists who have crossed over into national politics successfully. His transition might redefine the way that regional voices intersect with national conversation.
