Members of the Kurmi community have once again announced a ‘stop rail movement’ in support of their demand for ST (Scheduled Tribe) status. On September 20, trains will be stopped at more than 100 railway stations in Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the Adivasi Kurmi community at Murguma, West Bengal on Friday. In the meeting, the chief patron of the community, Ajit Prasad Mahato said that the Kurmi community followed all the Constitutional procedures to demand ST status, but the government has not taken it seriously till now.
“Therefore, now there will be a big movement, which will reach our voice to the central and state government,” he said.

In this movement, trains will be stopped at more than 100 stations in Jharkhand, Bengal and Odisha. This agitation will affect the rail service and passengers may face problems.
It is being said that the Kurmi community may continue the agitation for a long time to convey its demands to the government.The community has been demanding to include itself in the tribal community for a long time. For this, memorandums were submitted several times and agitations were carried out, but till now the government has not taken any concrete steps.
