At least six people died tragically in incidents of lightning across various districts of Jharkhand on Monday, while several others were seriously injured.
According to reports, Garhwa district was the worst affected, where three individuals lost their lives. Two fatalities were reported in Ramgarh, while one person died in Hazaribagh.
In Garhwa, three people died in Purbara Tola, Lakhaiya, and Rejo villages under Meral police station area. Five others, including three women, were also injured in the incident.
The deceased were identified as Shambhu Baitha (55), Dharmendra Ram (35), and Tarun Kumar Dev (18), who was the only son of MLA representative Dr Lalmohan. All three were residents of Garhwa.
In Ramgarh district, Sampu Devi (45) of Dulmi village under Chitarpur police station area and Madhwa Manjhi (60), a resident of Giddi, died due to lightning strikes.
Meanwhile, Raju Yadav died following a lightning strike in the Katkamsandi area of Hazaribagh district.
Meteorological scientist Abhishek Anand of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre informed that there is a likelihood of strong storms, thunder, lightning, and rainfall across most parts of the state from 21st to 23rd May.
In light of this, the department has issued a ‘yellow alert’ and has appealed to the public to remain cautious.
