On Thursday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged BJP MPs had physically assaulted him and hurt his knee during a protest near parliament.
This incident took place when both Congress and BJP MPs were protesting together over some comment made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
In his letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Kharge demanded an investigation into the matter dubbing it as not only an attack on him as an individual, but as Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
Kharge added that the BJP MP’s were on the physical aggression when he was at Makar Dwar with other MPs from the INDIA alliance. This made him lean forward and almost fell down to the ground.
This fall was severely painful for him since he had earlier undergone knee surgery.
The Congress vice-president’s letter traced his movement to the House with Congress MPs helping him to a chair where, with great effort, he was able to limp his way to the House. He described it as an attack on his persona and his roles in Parliament.
In a tweet, Kharge said BJP MPs were having placards on subsequently thick sticks to prevent the peaceful protest of the INDIA alliance MPs.
To put down any dissent and protest against their policies, stand on Babasaheb Ambedkar, Parliament, Constitution, and democracy, Kharge alleged that the BJP had orchestrated the violence.

This protest was highly political in nature; it seems as if both parties engaged the other in a standoff in front of parliament.
During the event, BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi was said to have suffered some injuries. The BJP accused of such injuries fell when Rahul Gandhi allegedly shoved another MP into Sarangi.
But Rahul Gandhi denied it saying that BJP MP’s themselves had threatened Kharge and had barred his entry at the parliament gate.
This violence outside Parliament has escalated the political contest between the BJP and the Congress party especially over comment made by Amit Shah. BJP in turn has threatened to file a police complaint against Rahul Gandhi is alleging him to be a part of the physical violence.
