Bengaluru man arrested for bomb threats

Mansoor allegedly called the police commissioner’s office on January 9, claiming preparations were being made to replicate the bomb blast at Rameshwaram Cafe.

News Arena Network - Bengaluru - UPDATED: January 14, 2025, 04:12 PM - 2 min read

In response to the threats, authorities have taken additional security precautions across Bengaluru.

Bengaluru Police have arrested a 40-year-old man, Mansoor, for making bomb threat calls that raised alarms ahead of Republic Day. The calls were received at the city’s Police Control Room and the police commissioner’s office, leading to heightened security measures.

Mansoor allegedly called the police commissioner’s office on January 9, warning that preparations were underway to replicate a bomb blast similar to the one at Rameshwaram Cafe. He also claimed that explosives were planned to target the residences of six prominent individuals in Bengaluru on Republic Day.

Central DCP Shekhar H Tekkanavar stated that Mansoor, who runs a small provision store in Shivajinagar, was arrested on January 11 by the Vidhana Soudha police.

Investigations revealed that Mansoor had no criminal history. However, he faced significant financial losses after being forced to shut down his store when the building owner sold the property.

Seeking revenge, Mansoor made hoax bomb threat calls targeting the property owner and others involved in the sale.

In his call, Mansoor provided the names and contact details of several individuals, falsely claiming they were associated with the planned attacks.

Authorities have assured the public that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure a secure and peaceful Republic Day celebration.
