At least 18 people have been confirmed dead, and several others have been injured after a fire broke out at a firecracker godown near Deesa town in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district.
The incident has been reported by the local media, with the death toll expected to rise as many of the injured have sustained severe burns.
The fire occurred at a godown located on Dhunva Road near Deesa. The building collapsed after the fire spread, trapping individuals inside.
Emergency rescue teams, including district administration officials and firefighters, have been working to retrieve bodies from the debris, though the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Banaskantha Collector Mihir Patel provided an initial update, stating that 13 bodies had been recovered so far. He explained that the fire led to the collapse of the entire structure, with the heavy slab of the godown falling apart.
As debris is cleared, the situation is being assessed. Patel also reported that four people had been injured, with two of them being referred to Civil Hospital in Deesa and the other two sent to Palampur Civil Hospital for further treatment.
The district authorities received an emergency call around 9:45 AM, reporting that an explosion had occurred at the firecracker godown, which triggered the collapse of the building. Rescue efforts are ongoing, and officials are working to manage the aftermath of this tragic incident.
