Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon after completing a significant State visit to Mauritius, further strengthening the special and close relationship between the two nations.

His visit was marked by a series of engagements that reinforced the strategic partnership between India and the Indian Ocean nation.

Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam personally saw off PM Modi at the airport, showcasing the warmth of bilateral ties.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the visit as a "milestone" in India-Mauritius relations, underscoring the enhanced strategic partnership that will contribute to regional stability and cooperation.

PM Modi was accorded a warm reception upon his arrival in Mauritius on Tuesday morning, where PM Ramgoolam welcomed him at the airport.

Throughout the visit, both leaders engaged in key discussions and participated in significant events, including a banquet hosted in honour of the Indian Prime Minister.

Their interactions highlighted the growing collaboration between the two countries, which has deepened over the past decade.

During his address to the Indian community at the Trianon Convention Centre, PM Modi emphasised that Mauritius is not just a partner nation but part of India’s extended family.

Before departing, PM Modi visited Ganga Talao, a sacred lake for the Mauritian Hindu community, where he offered prayers and immersed holy water from the Triveni Sangam, which he had brought from India.

His gesture symbolised the enduring spiritual and cultural connections between the two countries.

PM Modi described his visit to Ganga Talao as an emotional experience, noting that the sacred waters serve as a reminder of the deep-rooted bonds that transcend geographical boundaries.

His visit reaffirmed India’s commitment to preserving and nurturing shared traditions while fostering diplomatic and strategic cooperation with Mauritius.
