The Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jai Bhagwan Upkar for allegedly assaulting a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) official during an inspection at an unauthorised meat shop in the Shahbad Dairy area.
According to police reports, the incident occurred when MCD official Sunil Kumar Ranga and his team conducted raids on illegal slaughterhouses in the area.
The FIR alleges that Upkar engaged in a scuffle with the MCD official, misbehaving with the team members. Ranga filed a complaint under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, detailing the MLA’s interference with the MCD’s enforcement activities.
According to the complaint, the MCD team had asked the shop owner, identified as Gul Mohammad, to pay a fine of Rs 37,500, which was calculated based on a fee of Rs 2,500 per goat.
However, the owner allegedly refused to comply, reportedly calling in his workers and issuing threats against the MCD officials.
The complaint further states that AAP MLA Jai Bhagwan Upkar, along with former councillor Shraddhanan and others, arrived on the scene, which led to a verbal exchange that quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
