Christmas celebrations in Mizoram were marked by peace and harmony, with no significant law and order issues reported, according to the state police.
A senior police official confirmed that the festivities were largely calm, and residents displayed exemplary adherence to laws and regulations during the holiday season.
Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte noted that the crime rate during this festive period was lower compared to previous years.
He mentioned that while there were some minor incidents, such as burglary and the illegal sale of firecrackers, these were not widespread or alarming. The officer commended the public for their cooperation in maintaining peace and following government directives.
To ensure the safety of citizens and a smooth celebration, the authorities had implemented robust security measures, which will remain in place for the upcoming New Year festivities.
Khiangte emphasised that the police are prepared to handle any situation and urged residents to continue their support in upholding law and order.
During the period between December 24 and December 29, a total of 28 criminal cases were registered in the Aizawl region. Out of these, 22 were related to burglary, highlighting the need for continued vigilance.
Two individuals were apprehended for selling banned firecrackers, underscoring the authorities' commitment to enforcing safety regulations.
The police also took strict action against traffic violators during the Christmas celebrations. At least 47 people were detained for breaking traffic rules, ensuring that roads remained safe for all.
Additionally, three cases of unnatural deaths were reported during this time, though no further details were disclosed.
Khiangte acknowledged the efforts of the police force and the cooperation of the public in making the festivities peaceful and secure.
The authorities remain committed to maintaining this atmosphere of safety as the New Year approaches. Residents have been encouraged to celebrate responsibly and report any suspicious activities to the police.
