The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has called for a high-level meeting following a spate of bomb threats directed at aeroplanes. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday and comes in response to a series of alarming threats received on social media over the past few days.
On Monday and Tuesday, Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu convened a meeting with key officials from the Bureau of Civil Aviation, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and other senior personnel involved in airport security to discuss the situation. Sources indicate that more than ten bomb threats were reported via social media within just 24 hours, raising significant concerns about passenger safety.
CISF sources confirmed that the threats had been identified, and several social media accounts responsible for posting these alarming messages have already been suspended. A senior police officer noted that some of these threats appeared to originate from locations in London and other countries, indicating a potential international aspect to the situation.
In light of the threats, airport security officials are treating every report seriously. A senior officer emphasised that no threat can be taken lightly, as the safety of passengers is their top priority.
The protocol following such threats involves immediate communication with the airlines affected, as well as coordination with the security officers at the relevant airports to ensure appropriate measures are taken.
Authorities are currently working diligently to track down the individuals behind these threats. They have informed the necessary police units to assist in the investigation and to identify those responsible for creating panic through these social media posts.
The heightened level of alert within airport security underscores the importance of maintaining vigilance in the face of such threats. The MoCA's proactive approach in organising this meeting aims to strengthen measures and strategies to prevent any potential incidents and to ensure the safety of all passengers travelling by air.
As these developments unfold, the focus remains on effectively managing the situation and addressing any security concerns that arise in the coming days.
