Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed gratitude to the people of Delhi for delivering a decisive mandate in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the Assembly polls.
In a post on social media platform X, Modi stated, "Jana Shakti is paramount! Development wins, good governance triumphs. I bow to my dear sisters and brothers of Delhi for this resounding and historic mandate to @BJP4India. We are humbled and honoured to receive these blessings. Commitment to development
Assuring the residents of Delhi of comprehensive development, the Prime Minister pledged that the BJP would make every effort to enhance the quality of life in the national capital.
Modi further lauded BJP workers for their dedicated efforts in securing the party's victory, stating, "I am so proud of each and every @BJP4India Karyakarta, who has worked very hard, leading to this outstanding result. We will work even more vigorously and serve the wonderful people of Delhi."
Modi campaigns for change
The BJP's campaign, spearheaded by the Prime Minister, took a sharp aim at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over several contentious issues, including allegations of toxic pollution in the Yamuna River and the costly renovation of Arvind Kejriwal's official residence, which was mockingly termed the 'Sheesh Mahal' by opponents.
Modi himself referred to Kejriwal as an "Aapda."
Earlier in the day, as counting progressed, trends from the Election Commission pointed to a clear lead for the BJP.
State BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva remarked that the victory underscored the people of Delhi's faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the BJP headquarters later in the evening to address party workers and celebrate the victory.
Polling for the 70-member Assembly took place on 5 February, with a voter turnout of 60.54 per cent.
