The 59th All-India DGP-IGP conference, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and senior security officials, concluded on Sunday in the Odisha capital.
The conference, which began on November 29, was inaugurated by Shah at Lok Seva Bhawan. PM Modi chaired the key meetings on Saturday and Sunday.
Considering heightened security concerns, City Police Commissioner Suresh Devadatta Singh assured, "Amid potential threats, a foolproof security blanket was ensured during the event."
Both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister departed for Delhi from Biju Patnaik International Airport after spending three days in Bhubaneswar. The conference also saw the participation of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, along with DGPs of all states and Union Territories.
The security agenda dominated discussions, with the meeting addressing a range of national security challenges, including left-wing extremism, coastal security, narcotics, cybercrime, and economic security.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and state DGPs also contributed to the discussions on implementing new criminal laws and combating extremism. The security arrangement remained intense amid threat alerts.
Other topics included the implementation of new criminal laws, initiatives in policing, and the exchange of best practices.
Given the backdrop of threats from extremist groups, Odisha Police made comprehensive security arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the conference.
It is to be noted here that this is the same conference for which a threat was issued by US-based pro-Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun earlier this week.
The post had garnered significant attention, targeting the upcoming Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police Conference in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Pannun, the leader of the banned outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), had released a video urging disruption of the high-profile three-day event.
