The machete used in the brutal murder of Indore-based transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was killed while on his honeymoon in Meghalaya last month, has been recovered from the crime scene, police confirmed.
Raja, 29, was reportedly attacked multiple times with the machete, sustaining fatal injuries despite attempting to defend himself during the assault. Sources said the weapon was procured near Guwahati railway station in Assam and later brought to the crime location in Meghalaya, where it was recovered during the investigation. The killing, which has shocked the nation due to its chilling details, allegedly involved Raja's wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, 25. She is accused of conspiring with her lover, Raj Kushwaha, 20, and three others to have her husband murdered during their honeymoon.
Initially believed to be contract killers, the three other accused — Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi — were later found to be friends of Raj. All five suspects, including Sonam and Raj, were arrested by the Indore Police and are currently in the custody of the Meghalaya Police. According to investigators, Raja and Sonam were married in Indore on May 11.

The couple reached Meghalaya on May 21 for their honeymoon. Two days later, on May 23, they were reported missing from Sohra (Cherrapunji), located in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. Raja’s decomposed body was eventually recovered on June 2, triggering a nationwide outcry.
The search for Sonam continued until she was finally tracked down and arrested on June 9 in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, roughly 1,200 kilometres from the site of the murder. During interrogation, she allegedly confessed to orchestrating the killing and identified Raj and the other three as co-conspirators. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the case thoroughly. All five accused remain in police custody as the probe continues.
Meanwhile, Raja Raghuvanshi’s elder brother has called for a narco-analysis test on Sonam’s parents, suspecting that more individuals may be involved in the crime. He has publicly alleged that the full extent of the conspiracy has yet to be uncovered.
