La Ganesan, the Governor of Nagaland, passed away on Friday night while undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Chennai. According to the Kohima Raj Bhavan PRO, Ganesan had been hospitalised for several days.
On August 8, the Governor collapsed at his home in Chennai, sustaining a head injury. He was immediately taken to the hospital and admitted to the ICU for intensive monitoring and treatment.
Following his death, tributes poured in from various leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on X, formerly Twitter, writing, "Pained by the passing of Nagaland Governor Thiru La. Ganesan Ji. He will be remembered as a devout nationalist who dedicated his life to service and nation-building. He worked hard to expand the BJP across Tamil Nadu. He was deeply passionate about Tamil culture too. My thoughts are with his family and admirers."
Nagaland's Deputy Chief Minister, Yanthungo Patton, also extended his condolences on X, stating, "Deeply shocked and saddened by the passing of Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland, Shri La. Ganesan Ji. Throughout his journey in public life, he carried himself with dignity, humility, and an unshakeable commitment to the welfare of the people."
Ganesan was sworn in as the 21st Governor of Nagaland on February 20, 2023, after being appointed to the position on February 12, 2023.
