According to Jharkhand Police Headquarters, Palamu police had received information that a squad led by Naxal commander Shashikant Ganjhu, who has a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head, had arrived in the Tarhasi area to carry out an incident.

Based on this information, a search operation was launched under the leadership of ASP Operations Rakesh Kumar Singh. During the operation, TSPC militants opened fire on the police.
