'Naxalism is only confined to just five to six districts now', said the Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh on Friday. Adding to the statement the minister added that even at those places, Naxalism will not last for a long time.
Speaking on the occasion of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju’s 128th Birth Anniversary, Rajnath said that the Naxal hubs have been transformed into educational hubs. The area known as Red Corridor is now rapidly changing into a growth corridor. The Red Corridor is a geographical region, primarily in central and eastern parts of India, that has been heavily affected by left-wing extremism (LWE), commonly known as the Naxalite-Maoist insurgency.
The central government has pledged to make India a naxal-free nation by 31 March 2026.
Speaking on India's Op Sindoor, he said only terror structures in Pakistan were targeted. No civilian, or military establishments were hit. A befitting reply would be given to terrorism if there are any incidents in the future like the Pahalgam terror attack, he added.
