Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth on Tuesday announced that the National Cadet Corps (NCC) will be expanded by 300,000 cadets across the country, with several state governments already offering support and pledging to expedite the necessary training infrastructure.

Seth made the announcement while inaugurating the Special Joint State Representatives and Additional/Deputy Directors General (JS R&A/D) Conference of the NCC in Bhopal.

Addressing attendees, he reaffirmed the NCC’s vital role in youth development and nation-building, and called on states to fulfil their commitments in terms of manpower, infrastructure, and funding to facilitate this significant expansion.

The minister praised the Corps’ growing contributions to national campaigns such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Naya Savera Scheme, and Nasha Mukti Abhiyan.

He also commended the inclusion of ex-servicemen as NCC instructors, highlighting it as a meaningful step in offering employment opportunities to military veterans.

Seth congratulated the NCC Mount Everest Expedition team for successfully reaching the summit on May 18, 2025, calling it a symbol of courage and resilience among cadets.

The conference brought together state education and youth affairs ministers, senior Ministry of Defence officials, state department representatives, and NCC leaders from across India.

NCC Director General Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh provided an overview of the Corps’ recent accomplishments and outlined plans to strengthen training and camping facilities.

He said the focus remains on improving cadet performance and encouraging broader youth participation.
