Soon after the oath-taking ceremony of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her council of ministers, a meeting of Chief Ministers from National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-ruled states convened in the national capital, signalling the BJP's renewed political momentum.
Rekha Gupta was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Thursday, following the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) decisive victory in the assembly elections. Her appointment marks the BJP's return to power in Delhi after 27 years.
The meeting, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was held immediately after the grand swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena administered the oath of office to Gupta and her council of ministers.
Gupta, an MLA from Shalimar Bagh, took oath alongside six other ministers—Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of senior BJP leadership, including Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP national president J.P. Nadda.

Chief Ministers from several NDA-governed states, such as Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai, Maharashtra's Devendra Fadnavis, Andhra Pradesh's Chandrababu Naidu, and Goa's Pramod Sawant, also participated. Deputy Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh were in attendance, highlighting the party's emphasis on unity and governance.
Following the swearing-in, Prime Minister Modi extended his congratulations on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, "Congratulations to Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra and Pankaj Kumar Singh on taking oath as Ministers in the Delhi Government. This team beautifully mixes vigour and experience, and will surely ensure good governance for Delhi. Best wishes to them."
The event drew a large gathering of political figures. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, and Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa were among those present.
Gupta's political career reflects a deep-rooted connection with the BJP's organisational framework. She previously served as the general secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi and as a member of the party's national executive committee. In these roles, she led initiatives focused on the welfare of marginalised communities and women.
Her political journey began with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). She gained prominence as the President of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) during 1996-97, championing student issues.
The BJP's resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly elections saw the party secure 48 seats in the 70-member assembly, displacing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which was reduced to 22 seats. The Congress, for the third consecutive election, failed to win any seats.
