On Good Governance Day, Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launched a series of citizen-focused initiatives aimed at improving governance through technology.

These initiatives, designed to enhance public services and citizen-centric schemes, align with the Chief Minister’s vision of offering maximum support to even the most ordinary individuals in the state.

The new initiatives unveiled by the Gujarat Chief Minister included several platforms and systems to improve transparency, service delivery, and engagement with the people.

One of the key initiatives is the Government Performance Index, which evaluates the effectiveness of various state-level citizen-centric schemes, services, and grievance redressal mechanisms.

This index ranks departments based on their performance, ensuring that they are held accountable for the quality of their services.

Another important development is the Scholarship Monitoring System, which has been integrated into the Chief Minister’s Dashboard. This system will allow for efficient tracking and management of scholarships provided by different state government departments for youth education.

By offering a centralised platform, the system aims to improve the accessibility and administration of scholarships, ensuring that students can benefit from timely assistance.

In addition to this, a new Revenue Monitoring System has been introduced, providing a dedicated "Revenue Dashboard" that allows the government to track and manage various portals under the Revenue Department.

These include iORA, Khedut Kharai, Sudhara Hukam, eDhara, and others, all of which are crucial to managing land records and revenue generation. The introduction of this system aims to improve the efficiency of these services, providing better governance and easier access for citizens.

The Chief Minister also launched the CM Fellowship Website, an initiative designed to engage youth in good governance initiatives. This platform encourages young individuals to participate in governance-related activities and gain experience through the CM Fellowship Program.

By fostering youth involvement in governance, the programme hopes to create a more active, informed, and responsible citizenry.

Another notable introduction is the “Swar” platform, which leverages an AI-based application, Bhashini, developed by the Government of India. This innovative speech-to-text platform allows citizens to submit applications or representations via voice.

By integrating this feature with the "Write to CMO" section of the Chief Minister’s Office website, the government aims to make the process of communicating with officials more accessible, particularly for those who may find typing difficult.

The modernised Gujarat India Portal, launched alongside these initiatives, aims to provide citizens with a single-window platform for accessing comprehensive information about government services and initiatives.

This portal is designed to be user-friendly and accessible, offering a one-stop solution for anyone seeking information or services from the state government.

While inaugurating these initiatives, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stressed that true good governance is only possible when the government remains committed to the welfare of the people.

He encouraged citizens to offer feedback on the new systems, further enhancing their effectiveness and ensuring that they meet the needs of the people. He also emphasised the importance of continuous evaluation by officers and staff to improve service delivery and uphold the state’s governance standards.

The Chief Minister drew inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, highlighting how one individual’s vision can bring about transformative change in governance.

By following a similar approach, Bhupendra Patel aims to further the state’s development and ensure that the government serves its citizens with integrity and efficiency.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister’s Office also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Wadhwani Institute, marking the start of a two-year collaboration aimed at improving data-driven governance.

This partnership focuses on enhancing data quality, implementing standardised protocols, and using dashboards and other tools to ensure efficient governance.

Avantika Singh, Secretary to the Chief Minister, underlined the importance of technology in improving transparency and providing swift public solutions.

The launch of these new initiatives is a clear demonstration of the Gujarat government’s commitment to embracing technology for better governance.

As Chief Secretary Raj Kumar, Advisor SS Rathore, and other senior officers of the Chief Minister’s Office gathered to witness the launch, it was evident that technology would play a key role in the future of governance in Gujarat.

With the continued involvement of dedicated officers and staff, these initiatives are set to transform the way citizens interact with their government, making services more efficient and accessible.

Since 2014, Good Governance Day has been observed on December 25, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as a day to reflect on the importance of effective governance.

Gujarat’s new initiatives are a fitting tribute to this day, and they promise to bring significant improvements to the state’s public services and governance structures.
