Supreme Court on Monday will hear a plea requesting a direction to the Centre to employ diplomatic means to save an Indian nurse who is expected to be executed in Yemen on July 16 for allegedly committing murder. A bench of justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta bench is expected to hear the case. The issue was referred for hearing on July 10 after advocate Subhash Chandran KR stated that diplomatic channels should be approached at the earliest.
He had moved that payment of blood money to the relatives of the deceased permissible under Sharia law can be attempted. Relatives of the deceased can forgive the Kerala nurse if blood money is paid, he moved.

The bench requested the lawyer to deliver a copy of the petition to the Attorney General and requested his help.
Nimisha Priya, 38, a nurse from Kerala's Palakkad district, was convicted for killing her Yemeni business partner in 2017. She had been given the death sentence in 2020, and her last appeal was dismissed in 2023.
She is now detained in a prison in the capital city of Yemen, Sana'a.
The plea has been moved by an organisation — Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council — that is providing legal assistance to aid the nurse. The plea referred to a report in a section of the media that mentioned that the tentative date of execution of Priya has been set as July 16 by the Yemeni government.
