Padma Awards nominations open till 31st July 2025.

The nomination process for the prestigious Padma Awards 2026 has officially commenced from 15th March 2025.

These awards, which will be announced on the occasion of Republic Day 2026, seek to honour exceptional contributions across various fields. The last date for submitting nominations or recommendations is 31st July 2025.

The Government has stated that all nominations will be received exclusively through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in). This move ensures a streamlined and transparent process for selecting deserving candidates.

The Padma Awards—comprising the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri—are among India's highest civilian honours. Instituted in 1954, these awards are conferred annually on Republic Day.

They recognise distinguished achievements in diverse fields such as Art, Literature and Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade and Industry, among others.

The eligibility criteria for the Padma Awards include all individuals irrespective of race, occupation, position, or gender. However, government employees—including those working in public sector undertakings (PSUs)—are not eligible, except for doctors and scientists.

The Government remains committed to transforming the Padma Awards into “People’s Padma”, encouraging nominations from citizens across all sections of society.

Special emphasis is placed on recognising women, individuals from weaker sections, Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and persons with disabilities. The initiative also aims to identify and honour individuals who have dedicated themselves to selfless service to society.

Nominations must include all relevant details as per the prescribed format on the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal. Additionally, a citation in narrative form (maximum 800 words) is required, clearly outlining the nominee’s distinguished and exceptional achievements in their respective field.

Further details regarding the Padma Awards, including their statutes and rules, can be accessed on the Ministry of Home Affairs website (https://mha.gov.in) and the Padma Awards Portal (https://padmaawards.gov.in).

The Government has urged all citizens to actively participate in nominating deserving individuals, ensuring that outstanding contributions to society receive due recognition.
