Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar on Thursday visited troops deployed along the Line of Control as well as in the hinterland in the Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
He directed troops to remain in comprehensive operational readiness given the upcoming three-phase Assembly elections in the Union Territory beginning September 18.
During his visit to the forward areas in the Sunderbani sector, along with the White Knight Corps Commander, Lt Gen Kumar reviewed the current security situation along the LoC.
"The commander was briefed on the synergy between security forces and operational preparedness in the region," the Army's Northern Command shared on X.
The Army commander also visited the supporting units of the formation and laid emphasis on the aspect of maintaining comprehensive operational readiness.
During his visit to troops deployed in the hinterland, the Army commander was briefed on the aspect of operational preparedness and the prevailing security situation.
Lt Gen Kumar complimented the efforts of the troops and exhorted all ranks to maintain high morale and professionalism to meet the challenges ahead effectively.
Of late, there has been a resurgence of terrorism in various districts of the Jammu region that had remained rather peaceful since 2006.
While Kashmir Valley has been the epicentre of counter-terror operations for over a decade now, with terrorists remaining under relentless pressure, they have recently shifted their attention to the Jammu region.
Indeed, this hybrid emerging threat termed 2.5 terrorism has become quite a headache for the security forces at work in Jammu.
Experts maintain that difficult terrain, natural caves, and dense forests, even to some extent, sophisticated weaponry and highly encoded satellite-enabled Chinese handsets provided by Pakistan's Special Forces, enable these terrorists to escape detection in forested areas and upper reaches.
The security forces, in turn, have begun a multi-pronged operation to clear these places of terrorists.
Very recently, the Ministry of Home Affairs moved in a few thousand more troops to neutralise the terrorists and regain control over these strategically vital places.
