President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi exchange Diwali greetings, in New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm and heartfelt greetings to the people of India on the occasion of Deepavali, portraying the festival as one filled with vibrant energy and enthusiasm.

In a detailed letter addressed to the nation, he highlighted the unique significance of this year's Deepavali, noting that it is the second celebration following the construction of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya, a milestone that adds a special layer of reverence to the festivities.

Reflecting on the teachings derived from the life of Lord Ram, PM Modi emphasised the values of righteousness and courage in confronting injustice. He specifically referenced Operation Sindoor as a contemporary example of these principles in action.

In his letter, he wrote, "Lord Shri Ram teaches us to uphold righteousness and also gives us the courage to fight injustice. We have seen a living example of this a few months ago during Operation Sindoor. During Operation Sindoor, Bharat not only upheld righteousness but also avenged injustice."

The Prime Minister underscored the profound significance of this Deepavali, pointing out that the festival’s lamps will illuminate numerous districts across India, including remote regions where Naxalism and Maoist terrorism have been completely eradicated. He praised the individuals who have renounced violence, abandoned Naxalism, and embraced the Indian Constitution, choosing the path of mainstream development.

Describing this as a monumental achievement for the nation, PM Modi wrote, "This Deepavali is particularly special because, for the first time, lamps will be lit in many districts across the country, including remote areas. These are the districts where Naxalism and Maoist terrorism have been eradicated from the root. In recent times, we have seen many individuals abandoning the path of violence and joining the mainstream of development, expressing faith in the Constitution of our country. This is a major achievement for the nation."

In addition to celebrating these social and security milestones, PM Modi highlighted recent economic reforms, specifically the implementation of lower GST rates that took effect on the first day of Navratri. He referred to this initiative as the "GST Bachat Utsav" (Savings Festival), noting that it has enabled citizens to save thousands of crores of rupees.

He further positioned India as a beacon of stability and sensitivity amid global crises, expressing confidence in the nation’s trajectory toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy in the near future. The letter stated, "Amid these historic achievements, the country has also embarked on next-generation reforms in recent days. On the first day of Navratri, lower GST rates were implemented. During this ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ (Savings Festival), citizens are saving thousands of crores of rupees. In a world going through multiple crises, Bharat has emerged as a symbol of both stability and sensitivity. We are also on track to become the third-largest economy in the world in the near future."

PM Modi also called upon citizens to actively contribute to the vision of a "Viksit" (developed) and "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" (self-reliant India). He placed particular emphasis on the adoption of "Swadeshi" (locally made) products as a means of fostering national pride and economic self-reliance.

In his letter, he urged, "In this journey of a ‘Viksit’ (Developed) and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India), our primary responsibility as citizens is to fulfill our duties towards the nation. Let us adopt ‘Swadeshi’ (local products) and proudly say: ‘This is Swadeshi!’ Let us promote the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’. Let us respect all languages. Let us maintain cleanliness. Let us prioritise our health. Let us reduce the use of oil in our food by 10 per cent and embrace Yoga. All these efforts will rapidly move us towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’."

Through his letter, PM Modi not only celebrated the cultural and spiritual essence of Deepavali but also connected it to broader national achievements and aspirations, encouraging citizens to unite in building a stronger, self-reliant, and developed India.
