Security forces in Jammu have intercepted a pigeon carrying a threat letter tied to its claws, warning of an attack on the Jammu railway station, officials confirmed on Thursday. The bird was captured on the night of August 18 in the Katmaria area of RS Pura sector, close to the International Border.
Authorities said the pigeon is believed to have flown in from across the border. The chit, written in both Urdu and English, carried messages such as “Kashmir Freedom” and “Time has come” along with a warning to blow up the railway station with an improvised explosive device.
“This pigeon believed to be flying in from Pakistan was caught in the Katmaria area along the International Border at around 9 pm on August 18. A chit was found tied to its claws carrying a message to blow up the Jammu railway station,” a senior police officer said.
While Pakistan-based entities have earlier sent balloons, flags and pigeons across the border bearing symbolic or provocative messages, officials noted that this is the first time a captured pigeon carried a direct terror threat.

Security agencies are probing whether the act was a prank, an attempt at psychological warfare, or part of a planned conspiracy. “You have to take such matters seriously,” one security expert remarked, suggesting the pigeon could have been specially trained for the task.
Police and railway authorities have stepped up security across the Jammu station premises and its tracks. Dog squads and bomb disposal units have been deployed, with heightened vigil ordered throughout the district.
Officials added that given the prevailing threat perception, such incidents cannot be dismissed lightly. Security agencies are treating the episode as a reminder of continued cross-border designs targeting sensitive installations.
