Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar and West Bengal on August 22 to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects across key sectors, valued at more than ₹18,000 crore.
His visit will cover Gaya, Patna, and Kolkata, where he will also flag off new rail services and inaugurate metro routes.
The Prime Minister will begin his engagements in Bihar, where he is scheduled to dedicate projects worth around ₹13,000 crore in Gaya.
At around 11 am, he will address the gathering and inaugurate major connectivity and infrastructure projects. Among these, the centrepiece is the inauguration of the Aunta–Simaria bridge project on the River Ganga.
Constructed at a cost of over ₹1,870 crore, the 8.15 km project includes a six-lane bridge of 1.86 km across the Ganga, providing direct connectivity between Mokama in Patna and Begusarai.
The bridge is positioned parallel to the ageing two-lane Rajendra Setu rail-cum-road bridge, which has long been in a dilapidated state, forcing heavy vehicles into a detour of more than 100 km.
The new bridge is expected to ease congestion, cut travel distance significantly, and provide better access to Simaria Dham, a major pilgrimage site and the birthplace of poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar.
The improved connectivity is also set to enhance economic activity across North Bihar, which relies heavily on South Bihar and Jharkhand for raw materials.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the four-lane Bakhtiyarpur to Mokama section of NH-31, worth around ₹1,900 crore.
This project is expected to reduce congestion, ease travel, and improve freight and passenger movement. Alongside, the improved two-lane stretch of NH-120 from Bikramganj–Dawath–Nawanagar–Dumraon will expand opportunities for rural communities by improving local connectivity.
In the energy sector, Modi will dedicate the Buxar Thermal Power Plant, with a capacity of 660x1 MW and a project cost of about ₹6,880 crore. The facility will strengthen Bihar’s power supply, address rising electricity demand, and contribute to energy security in the region.
In healthcare, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre at Muzaffarpur.
The state-of-the-art facility houses advanced oncology OPD services, IPD wards, operation theatres, modern labs, a blood bank, and a 24-bed ICU and HDU. This hospital will provide affordable cancer treatment in Bihar and neighbouring states, sparing patients the need to travel to metropolitan centres for specialised care.
Further, as part of the Namami Gange initiative, Modi will inaugurate a Sewerage Treatment Plant and network in Munger, valued at over ₹520 crore. The project aims to reduce pollution in the Ganga and improve sanitation.
Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone of urban development projects worth around ₹1,260 crore, including sewerage systems in Daudnagar, Jehanabad, Barahiya, and Jamui, alongside water supply projects in Aurangabad, Bodhgaya, and Jehanabad under AMRUT 2.0.
These schemes are designed to provide clean water and better sanitation, boosting health and quality of life in the region.
The Prime Minister will also flag off two new train services. The Amrit Bharat Express will connect Gaya with Delhi, offering passengers enhanced comfort, modern facilities, and improved safety.

The Buddhist Circuit Train will operate between Vaishali and Koderma, supporting tourism and religious travel across historic Buddhist sites.
Housing schemes will also be highlighted during the visit, with the Grih Pravesh ceremony for 12,000 beneficiaries under PMAY-Gramin and 4,260 beneficiaries under PMAY-Urban. Modi will symbolically hand over keys to a few families, marking a step towards the goal of “housing for all”.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will travel to Kolkata, where he will dedicate projects worth over ₹5,200 crore. At around 4:15 pm, he will flag off metro train services and undertake a metro ride from Jessore Road Metro Station to Jai Hind Bimanbandar and back.
Through video conferencing, he will also inaugurate metro services along the Sealdah–Esplanade and Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay sections. These new corridors will reduce travel time, ease congestion, and enhance connectivity to busy city centres and the IT hub.
The Sealdah–Esplanade stretch will cut travel time from about 40 minutes to just 11 minutes, while the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar service will strengthen airport access. A newly built subway at Howrah Metro Station will also be inaugurated.
In addition to rail projects, Modi will lay the foundation stone for the six-lane Kona Expressway, a 7.2 km elevated stretch valued at over ₹1,200 crore.
The project will improve road links between Howrah, Kolkata, and surrounding rural areas, cutting travel time and offering a significant boost to commerce, trade, and tourism in the region.
The Prime Minister’s visit underlines the government’s focus on strengthening connectivity, urban development, health, power, and infrastructure across eastern India, with projects aimed at driving growth and improving quality of life in Bihar and West Bengal.
