Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday strongly condemned the opposition, accusing a joint RJD-Congress platform in Bihar of targeting his late mother. During a public address, he described the incident as a profound insult to women across the entire country.
"Mother is our world. Mother is our self-respect. I had not even imagined what happened a few days ago in this tradition-rich Bihar. My mother was abused from the stage of RJD-Congress in Bihar," Modi said. He added that the abuse was not merely a personal insult. "These abuses are not just an insult to my mother. These are insults to the mothers, sisters and daughters of the country. I know how bad all of you, every mother of Bihar, felt after seeing and hearing this. I know, as much pain as I have in my heart, the people of Bihar are also in the same pain," he said.
The Prime Minister questioned why his mother, who was not involved in politics, was subjected to such partisan attacks. He asked, "My mother had nothing to do with politics, so why was she abused by the RJD and Congress?"
Modi further alleged that those who resort to such abuse reveal a mindset that views women as weak. He stated that the incident, which reportedly took place during a Congress 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar, was an insult not only to him but to every woman in the country.
Speaking at the launch of a new cooperative initiative aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among rural women in self-help groups, Modi highlighted the NDA government's consistent focus on women's empowerment in Bihar. "This new cooperative will become a strong platform for the daughters and sisters of Bihar to move forward," he said.
In the lead-up to the upcoming elections, the BJP has intensified its attacks on the opposition in Bihar, accusing the RJD-Congress alliance of resorting to personal and derogatory remarks.
